The Returning Warrior
Making a return to a store is a pain that we all know too well. What struck me about this shopper’s remorse is the mental toll it takes on each of us.I remember when I was younger returning an item was the equivalent of heart break.I want to share with you all right now that returning a purchase is far from the end of the world. There is no shame in returning something, there is no guilt in making a shopping mistake.
Returning something to the store should be approached as a simple practice because frankly, it is.I analyzed the fear and embarrassment I attached to such a common activity and came up with three realizations:
- First off acknowledge the reason why you want to return the item in question.Don’t allow pride or anxiety to keep something you are never going to wear in your closet.
- Secondly, if you haven’t worn the item, damaged, or harmed the garment in question then there’s no reason to feel tacky. The item is still the same item you just got from the store.
- Remember that you are not the only person to return an item of clothing to the store. You’re probably the 3rd or 4th person to make a return, don’t feel alone or singled out. A lot of people try to make right of their shopping wrongs, you’re not the first one and certainly not the last.
I hope my 3 tips helped take some of the sting out of returning clothing to stores.Returning clothing is never fun, but that doesn’t mean it should be painful.
